Bourke : the home for Sydney's second airport

Badgery's creek, Bankstown, Kirribilli...these are all dud options for a second Sydney airport. The true solution, as some have alluded, involves Australia's interests as a whole. This major city parochialism of power players looking to guarantee their speculative investments is forcing upon us a decision and a result which is unacceptable.

The provision of high speed trains, and other transport infrastructure suggestions need to be considered anyway. The 'either/or' nonsense erupting from compromise solutions is a red herring and is an additional threat to the provision of public infrastructure.

Sydney's second airport should be built in North Western New South Wales - somewhere near Bourke.

This part of Australia is roughly equidistant to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, as well as providing more equitable distances to other points in Australia generally.

International travellers can all arrive in Bourke. I can already see the creation of a truely Australian Welcome Lounge where all states and territories can tout for the visitors' custom. "Come to Adelaide, and enjoy a three day tour of our fabulous vineyards" etc. Package deals offering a visit to the heart of this great nation before visiting 'another city'.

The opportunities for regional employment are boundless. The decentralisation of the tourist mentality can be encouraged. The opportunities for a regional hub for quick delivery export items such as cut flowers are just mind-blowing.

Sydney residents can be alleviated of additional aircraft noise and pollution.

And if you are die-hard fast train junkie, then just picture the Darwin to East Coast link via Bourke.

end of rant.
