Blog ![]() "A blog sounds like something that blocks the S-bend..."
Do you really need a cup of coffee? There's this book I really want! Oh, soon I can afford to get a new car. Child care is how much!? I hate my job. |
9th February 1999The daily grindIt's a dilemma of the modern western world, I know. We all want to be patriotic and perform our civic duty: purchase more so that the economy keeps expanding. But then we think about that daily grind that cuts into t the vital spirits. Earn more money to spend more money. Spend more time following someone else's agenda so that you can spend your money to help someone else's agenda.Money is power. But there is greater power that shifts it away from the wallet. A universal law of currency extraction. We know that the hippie option on the farm is unattractive to our sensitive urban souls. The choice of becoming a social outcast by not spending money is truely not a choice. Being viewed as an eccentric who re-uses teabags, and builds coffee tables from old packing boxes wears off. Being a penny-pinching social hanger-on-er-er is not tolerated for long. The phone WILL stop ringing. The life of crime is certainly the choice of some. Not for me though. Politics for others guarantees a life of security. But who would willingly choose public life in the age of media scrutiny? So what do we do? I have some friends in IT who suggest that the build up of ridiculous amounts of debts is a wise move at this point in history. In less than a year, no-one's going to know who owes what! end of rant.
