Technology and People

Reading the constitution, and the various models for change makes one all too aware of the fact that people come to agree on a set of rules to conduct their lives. A super computer cannot provide the solution.

People need to discuss and argue and debate and consider.

The notion that technology will save us from evil is nonsense. Take computers for example. Privacy, security of transactions and other such things can be enforced by the will of the people through law.

The fact that most people want to play games with computers is a healthy sign that we know what they are best designed to do.

The fact that the internet can allow us to communicate and disseminate information denies the reality that pre-internet existed. Slavery was abolished in the US before the internet came about. And I don't recall electronic network technology being essential for the French revolution.

People coming together and talking about things by whatever means is the crucial point.
