Australia Day is on a Tuesday this year; I've only noticed.

The rain has stopped.

IOC officials resign over corruption scandal.

It is annoying not having any butter when one wakes.

25th January 1999

How nice of 'em

Listening to the radio news about the corruption scandals and resignations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the first exciting thing to happen to the Olympic movement.

This morning's announcement that Sydney and Salt Lake City will both be allowed to continue with their hosting of the Olympics is the funniest thing I have heard all year.

The IOC is now the most completely irrelevent body of people on the planet. It is over. Time for a deconstruction of the governing body.

...in my opinion...

I think a return to the classical events of sports, held every four years in Greece, is the only solution. A thong to hold the wobbly bits of bronzed athletes who perform the most fundamental feats of human ability:

run fast
jump high
throw far

The other two things that happen every four years called the summer and winter Olympics are an irrelevency.

They are businesses that have required organising committees, the building of stadiums and international multi-national deals.

You can leave the bob-sleds and the soccer players to their own sporting events. They deserve to be sponsored in a separate event. The human body and the earth beneath us: that's what it is about.

Personal endurance.

Everything else is fluff.

end of rave.
