You wont live forever. Life wasn't meant to be easy. Count your blessings. Don't worry, be happy. Prozac : could it be for you? |
9th January 1999What is it to be alive?Living is the easiest thing in the world. It's everything you do between birth and death. The two corollary questions implied about "living", are:
(1) how to live? For it is, in fact, these two specific queries into the void that lead us into the quagmire of anxiety. We don't want to die, but we don't know what to do with our life. We live in fear. I don't know about you dear reader, but it is when I have a clear understanding of what it is I want that I feel alive. It is when I know what I want, when I don't fear death. It is not enough to not want to die. Living a negation is being dead already. It is futile "wanting lots of money". Money is a by-product of doing what you want. "Yeah, but money lets you buy what you want!", you exclaim. If that's the case then you will need to accumulate the money. You need to work to accumulate the money. What kind of work will you do for money? Will it be a job that demands "rewards" for a crappy existence? Will it be criminal, so you have to hide in the shadows? What you want is not an intellectual thing. The mind is a tool to assist us in achieving what we want. You can't figure out what you want by thinking about it. "Know thyself" is inscribed above the entrance to the cave of shadows. When you know yourself, you do what you want. Other people don't know what you want. "Being alive" now transcends death - right now. end of rave.
