We didn't vote against a republic

Amanda Vandstone was just on the radio continuing to propogate the lie that "Australians voted to retain the Monarchy." Howard's key legacy of ten years in office is the complete destruction of truth and the advancement of propaganda.

The people voted against a proposed change to the Australian Federal constitution. Australians were treated with contempt by John Howard as I covered in my 1999 rant, Vote No!. You may notice that I advocated a "No" vote and yet I wish to move away from a Monarchy.

This is a government that "does what it takes" to maintain power. Principles have no place and truth is dead. Think about the Howard government's twisting of the citizens desires during the referendum on the proposed constituional changes. And consider other examples such as the continued rewriting of Australia's indigenous history (His attack on the "Black Armband" view of history) or the treatment of refugees and the new language of abuse developed to assist the govenrment to justify its actions.

"Truth Overboard" is one of the most apt phrases to describe John Howard and his government. But it started in March 1996 with John Howard as Prime Minister and it started before that with John Howard, the man.

End of Rant.
